Federica Brignone wins the Semmering Giant in Austria

Federica Brignone dominated the Semmering giant slalom in Austria. The Italian achieved her 29th World Cup victory. Behind Brignone (2’03″14), the Swede Sara Hector (0″57) and the New Zealander Alice Robinson (0″90).

Federica Brignone won for the first time on the snow of Semmering, a town in Lower Austria for what was the 71st podium of her career. The latest success of ‘Fede’, on October 26th in the Solden giant. With today’s success, the Aosta Valley skier from La Salle, bearer of the Carabinieri, has also jumped to the lead in the general World Cup ranking, reaching 318 points.

 

Behind her are two Swiss, Camille Rast with 301 (today seventeenth) and Lara Gut-Behrami (269) who today, after being second at the end of the first heat, finished ninth at 1″83 behind the Italian. Marta Bassino is improving in condition , seventh at 1″33 from her compatriot. Tomorrow in Semmering the last race of 2024 of the women’s White Circus will be held, a special slalom with the first run at 10.30 am and the second at 1.30 pm.

 

Brignone, I like the challenge and the challenge on myself

“I like the challenge, I like to continue to challenge myself, I like to continue to look for solutions to go faster. In recent years I have also found a greater balance mentally, I seem to continue to improve and then I like skiing and I it’s fun”, commented the blue girl. The 34-year-old from Valle d’Aosta from La Salle has retouched the record of being the ‘oldest’ skier to have won a Cup race, returned to the red bib as leader of the overall Cup race and climbed onto the podium (71 in total) in the 31st different location of the Circus White.

 

“I missed Semmering, it was a goal of mine, it was a really wanted podium and I’m very happy, I felt good with my skiing, despite little training I managed to have a good feeling on spring snow like this which I like. Everyone during the summer training I had good sensations in giant slalom”, added the Carabinieri athlete. After a few days of rest at home for New Year’s Eve, Brignone looks ahead to the month of January which “will be non-stop. Lots of races and then there are the Italian stages (Cortina d’Ampezzo and Plan de Corones, ed.) which I care about very much” he concluded .
