Milan did not go beyond a 1-1 draw against Roma in the match at the Meazza: Paulo Dybala’s goal answers Tijjani Reijnders’ early lead. A draw that serves neither the Rossoneri nor the Giallorossi to move closer to the top of the table. Vibrant match from the first minutes, with Dybala attempting a shot in the 3rd minute which was easily blocked by Maignan. Three minutes later Reijnders attempted a long-range shot supported by Theo Hernandez, but Svilar made the ball his own in two halves. In the other half Hummels tries with a header, but it doesn’t worry Maignan. In the 11th minute the first big chance of the match arrives for the Giallorossi, who hit a sensational post with Dovbyk after a good team action.
Paulo Fonseca’s boys react immediately and in the 16th minute they take the lead with the usual goal Tijjani Reijnders, who receives from the left from Fofana and pierces Svilar. Not even time to digest the disadvantage, and Roma risked conceding the 2-0: nice ball from Jimenez for Morata, who turns it to the near post, missing the goal by a whisker. In the 23rd minute Roma started an excellent move again, which this time led to Paulo Dybala’s equalizer: Fantastic backheel from Dovbyk for the Argentine, who kicks with first intention and makes it 1-1. Tempers flared at the end of the first half following an intervention in the area by Pisilli on Reijnders and Fabbri was forced to draw a yellow card for Theo Hernandez and Morata and a red one for coach Paulo Fonseca. A few seconds before the break Chukwueze penetrates the opponent’s area and puts it in the middle for Reijnders, who is anticipated by the Capitoline defense.
In the second half both coaches made substitutions, but the main dangers were always created by the usual suspects: first Maignan blocked a shot from Dovbyk and then Pisilli saved on Fofana. In the 54th minute, substitute Bennacer attempted a shot from outside and forced Svilar to deflect it for a corner. A couple of minutes later the Giallorossi goalkeeper performs a miracle on a curling shot from Chukwueze aimed at the top corner. Just in his best moment the Nigerian suffers an injury and has to leave the field to Abraham. In the 78th minute, a nice start from Pisilli, who freed himself from the Rossoneri defenders but made a mistake at the moment of conclusion. In the final, Milan suffers and Claudio Ranieri’s boys try to win it: El Shaarawy’s conclusion which Maignan outdoes himself with a great save. Despite opportunities from Pellegrini and Dybala, the Rossoneri resisted the Giallorossi’s assault and defended the 1-1 draw until the final whistle.
