After Dana White confirm at least one event from the UFC in Brazil in 2025, the welterweight Carlos Prates He gave some details about what he heard behind the scenes at the organization.
In an interview with the MMA Fighting website, the Brazilian stated that Ultimate is planning a Fight Night in Brasília on May 31st —and he would like to be part of the card.
“If the UFC wants to give me a fight in April, I’d rather wait and fight in May in Brazil. I would love to fight in Brazil. Maybe a main event again? I don’t know if I’m asking too much,” he declared.
Prates fought in the main fight of UFC Vegas 100 against Neil Magny and won by knockout in the first round. His desire was to be part of the UFC 312 card, in February, in Australia, but he has an injured foot and will not have time to recover.
A UFC debutant with four knockout wins in 2024, Carlos could fight again in April. After hearing rumors about a possible event in Brasília, he even prefers to wait to step into the octagon here for the first time.
UFC in Brasilia
Although Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo are the most frequent UFC destinations in Brazil, since Dana White confirmed an event here for next year, Brasília has emerged as the strongest candidate to host it.
On his YouTube channel, Renato Moicano, who was born in the Brazilian capital, stated that if he beats Beneil Dariush at UFC 311 in January, he will ask for the main fight at UFC Brasíliawhich is not yet on the official schedule.
O OneTwo Sports found that, for now, there are no ongoing negotiations between Ultimate and the BRB Complex, which would host the event at the Nilson Nelson gym — its capacity is for almost 15 thousand people.
The same gym has already hosted several MMA events, including three editions of the UFC: 2014 with Antônio Pezão in the main fight, 2016 with Cris Cyborg and 2020 with Charles Oliveira — the latter without the presence of the public, due to the protocol of Covid-19 pandemic safety.
In 2023, Ultimate made a reservation at Nilson Nelson for the end of the first semester and even carried out technical visits, but ended up canceling. That same year, Rio and São Paulo received UFC cards.
