Bayern Munich suffers their next defeat in Madrid

The FC Bayern Munich basketball players suffered another away defeat in the EuroLeague. The Bundesliga basketball team lost out to EuroLeague runner-up Real Madrid 76:88 (30:47). Bayern have lost seven of their ten away games in the European Cup. After the 97:89 first leg win, the direct comparison against the Spanish top team was also lost.

Bayern allowed a few points near the basket at the beginning, but were hardly able to finish in the zone themselves. Instead, the guests often tried from outside, but apart from Niels Giffey, no player scored a three-pointer in the first quarter. After ten minutes, Munich were behind 16:23. At the end of the second half, Bayern didn’t score for five minutes. After a 0:14 run they went into the locker room with a 30:47 deficit.

Bayern loses despite a good second half

After the break, Bayern were still unable to score points from quick attacks, which is actually one of their strengths, but the guests reduced their ball losses. The Munich team reduced their deficit to 50:62 before the final period. There, Bayern impressed with their tempo game. Shabazz Napier reduced the score to 71:78 three minutes before the end of the game. But the Bundesliga basketball team couldn’t get any closer.

Carsen Edwards (18 points) and Shabazz Napier (17) scored the most points for the Munich team. Sergio Llull played his 426th EuroLeague game with Madrid. The long-time Spanish international is now the sole record holder.
