New information about Iivo Niskanen’s situation: “He must have already gone for a run”

The Olympic champion had to miss the Tour de Ski.

I ski superstar Iivo Niskanen has maintained complete radio silence since announcing that he was withdrawing from the Tour de Ski due to illness. It was already the second year in a row when Niskanen got sick before the Central European ski tour.

In Val di Fiemme, however, new pieces of information about the situation of the Olympic champion were revealed. The head coach of the Finnish national team Teemu Pasanen according to Niskanen, at least he is no longer at the bottom of the bed.

“Yes, Iivo has certainly already been to the run,” says the head coach.

The last time Pasanen was in contact with Niskas was a few days ago, so he doesn’t have brand-new information either.

“After the tour, we’ll see what Iivo does. Basically, he is coming to the Les Rousses World Cup.”

The Cup’s tour lands in eastern France on the 17th-19th. January. There is a free 10-kilometer intermediate start, a traditional sprint and a 20-kilometer traditional joint start race.

According to Pasanen, it is possible that Niskanen will already compete in the Imatra SC skiing in a week.

“After the tour, we need to talk to Iivo in more detail.”

My neck the beginning of the season has been unfortunately similar to the last two seasons, when he also got sick in November-December.

Pasanen has been at the helm of the national team since the 2020–21 season. He, if anyone, knows Niskanen’s tricks.

“Iivo doesn’t need many competitions. He can come straight to the value races and be in terrible shape there. Fortunately, he is the type that doesn’t need competitions, but can get back to his normal condition through training alone.”

So you don’t have to worry about it.

“There is still a lot of time to Trondheim.”

WC skiing takes place in Norway from 26 February to 9 March. Niskanen’s main trip on the World Cup tracks is a 10 kilometer traditional intermediate start race.
