Isco shines in El Alcoraz, Osasuna wins in Tenerife and Almería thrashes Sevilla on the way to the round of 16 of the Cup

Real Betis Balompié, CA Osasuna and UD Almería have reached the round of 16 of the Copa del Rey MAPFRE this Saturday thanks to their respective victories against SD Huesca by 0-1, CD Tenerife by 1-2 and Sevilla FC by 4-1, in the latter case with Almeria’s comeback guided by a hat-trick from Luis Javier Suárez.

At El Alcoraz, the match went in favor of Betis with a single goal from Isco Alarcón after half an hour; It was with a subtle and brilliant shot from ‘trivela’, inside the rival area and that entered next to the far post. Meanwhile, Giovani Lo Celso hit two good left-footed shots, first on the crossbar and then on a mid-height post.

On the Huesca side, Jordi Martín had the clearest chance before the break with another left footed shot on the edge of the area that went high. In the second half, Isco himself scored with a beautiful right-footed volley, but everything was canceled due to a previous foul by his teammate Vitor Roque.

Even so, Betis’ ticket to the next phase of the ‘KO’ tournament was not in danger, where Osasuna will also be after winning at the Heliodoro Rodríguez López Stadium. Jorge Herrando opened the scoring in the 7th minute, with a shot with his back after a corner kick, and José León scored his own goal in the 25th minute, when he mis-cleared another corner kick.

Although León made up for it with a 1-2 lead before the break, a low left-footed shot from outside the area that tripped on an opponent, Tenerife was eliminated and did not provide a victory for Álvaro Cervera’s debut on the bench. Xavi García Pimienta is also not there to throw New Year’s Eve rockets for his career at Sevilla, who also said goodbye.

It was of little use that Isaac Romero made it 0-1 in the 5th minute with a left-footed shot on the turn, inside the area and at grass level, since the protagonist was Luis Suárez after the break. Of course, the tie (49′) was a great goal from Marezi Milovanovic, thanks to a right-footed shot from the balcony of the area that slipped into the corner of the visiting goal.

In the 55th minute, Suárez completed the comeback with a shot from point-blank range on a counterattack. And in the 78th minute, a similar action ended with several Almería players rushing in to finish off a cross from Arnau Puigmal, which Suárez caught quickly. The current top scorer in the Second Division rounded off his afternoon by scoring his third goal, from a penalty, in stoppage time.
