Curious scene during the test match between VfB Stuttgart and Ajax Amsterdam (2:2): Ajax professional Davy Klaassen initially saw a red card for a foul on Stuttgart’s Atakan Karazor in the 56th minute, but was then allowed to continue playing. Meanwhile, VfB captain Karazor was substituted, but at least at first appearances he didn’t appear to be seriously injured.
The Bundesliga soccer team took a 2-0 lead against the Dutch record champions thanks to goals from national players Angelo Stiller (13th) and Chris Führich (19th). In the second half, VfB defender Jeff Chabot scored an own goal (52′) before Chuba Akpom (86′) scored the late equalizer.
VfB is hoping for an extension for Stiller
National striker Deniz Undav, who was injured for several weeks before the turn of the year and is now training again, was rested. Stuttgart will play their first league game of the new year on January 12th at FC Augsburg. The runner-up is currently in tenth place in the table.
Sports director Fabian Wohlgemuth reported on the sidelines of the test match about “good conversations” with midfielder Stiller, whose contract, which runs until 2027, would be gladly extended early by VfB. But this could still take a certain amount of time, explained Wohlgemuth on Sky. Stiller is one of Stuttgart’s most important players, “an absolute cornerstone”.
