Cagliari comes back to win 2-1. Monza increasingly last in the standings

Heavy victory in the key to salvation for Davide Nicola’s Cagliari, who passed 2-1 at Monza, increasingly alone at the bottom of the table. First Caprari’s penalty at the start of the match deceived the home team, then the goals of Zortea and Piccoli overturned the result in favor of the rossoblu, who overtook Lecce – at least momentarily – just outside the relegation zone. The match started off strongly, with two key episodes in the first six minutes of the game: first Cagliari, following the development of the corner taken by Viola and on which Felici managed to deflect towards the goal but was blocked by the post; then Monza, who counterattacked in the 3rd minute with Ciurria’s shot blocked in the area by Makoumbou’s wrist, a touch which, after the monitor review by Di Bellothe penalty converted three minutes later by Caprari was worth it. Brianza took the lead and the pace was immediately very high, with Nicola’s eleven trying to respond to the goal conceded thanks to Viola’s left-footed inside, which Turati did well in diving.

It’s only a matter of minutes, however, for Cagliari, who in the 22nd minute draw the wildcard, on the transition led by Felici who unloads for Zortea’s left-footed shot from distance, winning in the trajectory that beats Turati. Fun and balanced first half, as well as the start of the second half, in which Cagliari will find the overtaking goal, thanks to the deep attack of Piccoli who kicks hard at Turati’s post with his right foot to seal the 2-1 at the end of the 56th minute. Another hard blow for Monza, who seems to be breaking down definitively seven minutes later, with D’Ambrosio kicking Mina from the ground and, after another on field review, was sent off by Di Bello.

Cagliari was thus more facilitated in the management of a psychologically astonished Monza – with Lapadula also hitting a post at the end -, with no more chance of counter-attack and reaction, until the end of the six minutes of added time which condemned the red and whites to their eleventh defeat of the championship, instead giving the rossoblu a success that had been missing since last November 29th against Venezia.
