Emotional home win for Eva Pinkelnig in Villach

Nobody can cheer as exuberantly as Eva Pinkelnig. The Vorarlberg native likes to let her emotions run wild, but this winter Pinkelnig has been more reserved than usual: her first win of the season didn’t work out for a long time.

In Villach, the 36-year-old ended her dry spell and celebrated her 16th success in the World Cup with jumps of 95.5 and 97 meters ahead of the previous day’s winner and World Cup leader Katharina Schmid from Germany and the Slovenian Nika Prevc. The Vorarlberg woman is following suit Daniela Iraschko-Proud straight away, she is in fourth place in the all-time best list of women’s ski jumping.

Pinkelnig had only landed on the podium once this season, coming third in Garmisch-Partenkirchen on New Year’s Eve. In the second competition on the normal hill in Villach, the overall World Cup winner from 2022/23 had two excellent jumps and won by a respectable margin of 7.1 points. In the ninth competition of the season, the winner was not called Prevc or Schmid for the first time.

With Lisa Eder (7th) and Jacqueline Seifriedsberger (8th), two ÖSV jumpers ended up in the top 10.
