HIFK Friidrottin 18 years old Mila Heikkonen won the women’s 60-meter hurdles with her impressive record of 8.24 in the Lahti Sprint Cup as an epiphany. Heikkonen’s previous record was 8.37 run last week in Tallinn.
The result puts Heikkonen in third place in Finland’s all-time indoor statistics for under-20s. Above are only Nooralotta Neziri and Manuela Bosco I ran 8.22 and 8.12.
Heikkonen competed in the 60-meter hurdles twice. The first start was at 8.39.
“I was confident when there was already one competition down. I tried to invest everything in the beginning of the run and try to get off the stands as hard as possible. In Tallinn, the beginning was a bit slow,” said Heikkonen in SUL’s press release.
The two of you after the hurdles start, Heikkonen’s work continued in Lahti with two 60 meter smooth starts. The first one brought a time of 7.76. Heikkonen won the second run with his record of 7.73. The previous record before the Lahti runs was 7.86 run the other year.
Last summer, Heikkonen ran 13.20 under 20-year-old SE in the 100-meter hurdles and dropped his 400-meter hurdles record to 57.10. In his age group’s World Championships in Peru, he was sixth in the 400-meter hurdles.
– Now I have run hurdles, but I would like to run 300 meter hurdles during the indoor season and I also run 400 meters, says Heikkonen.
A weak one the exercises have gone according to plan, even though there was a small setback before the start of the hall period.
– I sprained my ankle at the end of November. It was rehabilitated for a long time, but I got through it quite a bit and was able to train well before the start of the Games, Heikkonen said.
