Super Cup at Milan, Inter beaten 3-2: Rossoneri comeback and triumph

Milan beat Inter 3-2 with an extraordinary comeback and won the Italian Super Cup. The Rossoneri, 0-2 down at the start of the second half, turned the match around by winning with Abraham’s decisive goal in the 93rd minute.

The match

Inzaghi without Thuram fields Taremi from the 1st minute next to Lautaro up front, Barella, Calhanoglu and Mkhitaryan in the middle of the field, while Dumfries and Dimarco are confirmed on the flanks. In front of Sommer are Bisseck, De Vrij and Bastoni. Conceicao fields Tomori at the center of defense with Thiaw. Leao on the bench, with Jimenez on the left, Reijnders as an attacking midfielder and Pulisic on the right behind Morata.

Milan started strongly and in the 10th minute Pulisic sent a vertical ball to Reijnders, who then tried to kick from a tight angle but hit the outside of the net. Inter responded in the 12th minute with a soft ball from Barella into the area for Taremi who headed it all alone but the ball went out to Maignan’s left. In the 15th minute, a great trick from Reijnders who, with his sole on the edge of the area, leaps past Bisseck and then tries to kick off balance but misses the target. The Nerazzurri were dangerous again on the restart in the 23rd minute with Taremi passing Dimarco on the left, a running finish and a great finish which Maignan deflected into a corner with an open hand. Milan seems more fluid with Interr unable to build.

In the 35th minute, among other things, Inzaghi loses Calhanoglu due to an adductor problem and Asllani comes in in his place. At the end of the half, Inter managed to sink in the 38th minute with Mkhitaryan receiving the ball on the edge of the area and trying low to cross but the shot went wide. In the 43rd minute Lautaro Martinez tries with a shot from the edge, the ball deflected into a corner by Tomori, then in the 46th minute Toro scores: Mkhitaryan from the left serves Taremi in the center, the attacker raises his head and sees Lautaro Martinez free who controls, swerves to the left and shoots to the near post beating Maignan for 1-0.

The second half begins and Inter immediately double their lead. In the 47th minute, a long throw from De Vrij to Taremi who controls it, gets to the limit and puts it in the corner where Maignan can’t reach, it’s 2-0. Conceicao runs for cover and inserts Leao for Jimenez and Milan immediately closes the gap. The Portuguese gets a free kick from the edge of the box and in the 52nd minute Theo Hernandez shoots it past the post to Sommer’s right to make it 2-1. Milan believes in it and increases the forcing. In the 61st minute Morata plays for Pulisic, the American all alone in front of goal hits Sommer with a header. In the 62nd minute Leao again runs to the left, skips past Bisseck and serves in the middle, with Reijnders who shoots a sure shot into an empty net but Bastoni puts his face to it and saves Inter. Inzaghi’s team suffers and risks again in the 65th minute with Morata who heads but Sommer opposes with a great reflex.

Inzaghi also brings in fresh forces with Carlos Augusto and Zielinski and the Brazilian winger comes close to scoring in the 72nd minute: Taremi from the bottom of the bowl into the area, with Carlos Augusto who heads the post from two steps and Maignan blocks on the line. Milan tries everything and inserts Abraham for Musah. In the 80th minute the Rossoneri equalised. Leao throws Theo Hernandez who serves Pulisic in the middle, control of the American with a first-time left foot who beats Sommer to make it 2-2. Inter tried to avoid penalties but in the 87th minute they wasted a double opportunity, first Frattesi controlled the area but was unable to kick and was recovered by Thiaw with the ball ending up in Dumfries who blocked the shot in front of Maignan . In the 93rd minute the insult came for Inter: another play by Leao who burned Bisseck and served it in the middle where Abraham scored the goal with an empty net to make it 3-2 and the Rossoneri’s victory.
