Davidovich, Carreño, Martínez and Carballés will play the Davis Cup in Switzerland

The Spanish tennis players Pedro Martínez, Roberto Carballés, Alejandro Davidovich and Pablo Carreño will be part of the Spanish Mapfre team in the Davis Cup eliminator, which will face Switzerland, in the first eliminator of the tournament in 2025, which will be played on days 1 and 2 of February in Biel (Switzerland).

The team captain, David Ferrer, in a statement from the Royal Spanish Tennis Federation (RFET), thus advanced his selection -Davidovich, Carreño, Martínez and Carballés, and without Carlos Alcaraz or the already retired Rafa Nadal- for this round, in which the Spaniards will face the Swiss team on an indoor hard surface on February 1 and 2, at the Swiss Tennis Arena in Biel.

On the first day two singles matches will be played, and on the second day a doubles match will take place, followed by two singles matches. According to the new format of the competition, if Spain wins, it would face the winner of the tie between Denmark and Serbia in the second round, in both cases at home in the month of September.

The team led by David Ferrer will return to the scene after reaching the quarterfinals in last year’s edition, where they were eliminated by the Netherlands in the Final 8 held in Malaga. For its part, Switzerland also lost to the Dutch during the qualifiers of the same season, with a close score of 3-2, although they later achieved a resounding victory against Peru, 4-0.

It will be the seventh time that both countries meet in the competition. The last duel was in 2010, with Spain winning 4-1 in Logroño. Switzerland does not currently have any player in the ‘top 100’ of the world rankings, so its best racket at the moment is Alexander Ritschard (121), 30 years old.
