Kastening sees “world champion potential” in the DHB team

According to national handball player Timo Kastening, despite the silver coup at the Olympics, the DHB team is not yet in a condition to have serious hopes of winning the World Cup. Olympic champion Denmark in particular is still a big step ahead of the German selection.

“If you see over how long they show this self-image, this individual quality coupled with the strength of the team, we are still a long way from a world championship title,” said Kastening before the World Cup test against Brazil this Thursday (6.30 p.m./ZDF- live stream).

Kastening is extremely positive about the fact that the German selection now consists of many young players with a view to the coming years. “You have courses with a core of players who are fit and who are tearing themselves apart for the national team. Where you say, they can grow together over years. “You definitely have world champion potential,” said the right winger, looking at the young players around Renars Uscins and Nils Lichtlein.

No consistent “gold-claiming” thinking yet

The 29-year-old’s goal is to permanently close the gap on Denmark together with his teammates. “We will probably lose eight out of ten games. Our goal must be to develop this talent, this class, so that at some point we can reach a balance. And then you can seriously talk about constantly claiming gold,” said the Bundesliga professional from table leader MT Melsungen.
