Athletic Club attacker Nico Williams is a serious doubt to face FC Barcelona this Wednesday (8:00 p.m.) in the semifinals of the Spanish Super Cup due to a bruise on his left ankle that forced him to train on the sidelines in the run-up to the match, according to a statement.
“The player has not trained with the rest of his teammates as a precaution,” the entity reported on its website, stating that the attacker suffers “a bruise on his left ankle” that leaves him “pending progress.”
Nico Williams was a substitute in Athletic Club’s last match in the round of 32 of the Copa del Rey against UD Logroñés, but he played 61 minutes of a match that was finally decided in the penalty shootout, in which the ’10’ missed his launch.
In addition to the attacker, playmaker Oihan Sancet and right back Andoni Gorosabel also trained outside the group, with the former’s presence practically ruled out as he had not recovered 100% from his ankle injury.
