Pontevedra CF, from Second RFEF, and Ourense CF, from First RFEF, expect a ‘big’ win this Wednesday in the draw for the round of 16 of the Copa del Rey MAPFRE 2024-25, which will be held from 1:00 p.m. hours in the Luis Aragonés hall of the Ciudad del Fútbol of Las Rozas (Madrid) and where twelve ‘Firsts’ will enter the hype.
In addition to the representatives of LaLiga EA Sports -Real Madrid, FC Barcelona, Atlético de Madrid, Athletic Club, Real Betis, Real Sociedad, Valencia, RC Celta, Getafe, Rayo Vallecano, Osasuna and Leganés-, two LaLiga Hypermotion teams -Almería and Elche-, one from Primera RFEF -Ourense- and another from Second RFEF -Pontevedra- await rivals for a tie that will be played again in a single match and at the stadium of the lower category set on January 14 and 15; Teams that are not from the First Division will not be able to play against each other.
Pontevedra CF arrives at the round backed by its impressive performances prior to the heat of Pasarón. In the first round, they knocked out Levante UD (4-1), from the Second Division, and later made a splash by eliminating Villarreal (1-0) with a solitary goal from Dalisson. In the round of 32, they raised their bet by successfully defeating one of the last finalists, RCD Mallorca (3-0).
Meanwhile, Ourense CF also reached the round of 16 after beating Guijuelo (1-2) and RC Deportivo (1-0) in the first two rounds, before surprising Real Valladolid in O Couto in the round of 32 (3-2 ).
The two Galician teams will be the first to know their fortune, which will match them no matter what with a LaLiga EA Sports team, just like Elche and Almería. Subsequently, the playoffs between First Division teams will begin to be established.
The draw could even determine a Real Madrid-FC Barcelona Classic; Carlo Ancelotti’s team debuted in this edition of the cup tournament with a crushing victory against Deportiva Minera (0-5), while the blaugranas did the same against Barbastro (0-4).
