NBA: Victor Wembanyama falls behind LeBron James in fan voting for the next All Star Game

Victor Wembanyama had a “small game” with the San Antonio Spurs last night against the Milwaukee Bucks (121-105 defeat), far from his usual standards, with only 10 points and 10 rebounds in 33 minutes of play. But not enough to reduce its popularity with the general public.

This Thursday evening, the NBA communicated on the second return of public votes (there will be three in total) for the selection for the All Star Game which will take place on February 16 at the Chase Center, home of the Golden State Warriors. The Frenchman, who has just celebrated his 21st birthday, occupies 4th position in the Western Conference – 8th in all positions combined across the two conferences – with 1,630,948 fan votes. He was 5th last week, behind Anthony Davis (Lakers) whom he has now overtaken.

Still far from claiming a starting place

Even though he continues to amass many votes, Wemby is more than 300,000 votes behind third-place finisher Lebron James. Nikola Jokic and Kevin Durant are in the first two places in the West. A hell of a trio.

To be considered a “starter”, he must be among the three interiors voted for by the public (whose vote counts for 50% of the final score), the media (25%) and the players (25%). Because if the format of the All Star Game has changed (four teams instead of two), the selection does not change. There will be twelve players selected in each conference with five starters (three interiors, two backs) and seven substitutes.
