A duck from Maignan ruins the party for Milan, 1-1 with Cagliari

After the triumph in the Super Cup, Milan did not go beyond the draw at San Siro against Cagliari. The Rossoneri took the lead in the 51st minute with a tap-in by Morata, who was quick to put the ball into the net after Pulisic’s shot was deflected onto the post by Caprile.

The Sardinians equalized immediately: in the 54th minute Felici’s great drive unloads for Zortea, who crosses a shot from a tight angle that seems harmless but Maignan dives at the wrong time and is beaten after a deflection. The Rossoneri’s attack was in vain as they chipped the crossbar with Rejinders but then found a great Caprile on their way.

The first chance is for the home team and comes in the 14th. Reijnders takes a corner backwards from the left to find Hernandez, whose deflected left-footed shot goes just wide of Caprile’s right. The Rossoneri try to win the game, but the Sardinians defend themselves with order and start again with courage. In the 40th minute Felici severely challenges Maignan with a right-footed shot from distance which the French goalkeeper deflects into a corner with his fingertips. The first half ends at 0-0.
Conceicao’s men started again strongly in the second half and after less than two minutes they came close to taking the lead when Pulisic tamed a complicated ball on the edge of the area and went to shoot, but the ball hit the top of the crossbar. It’s the prelude to the lead that comes in the 6th minute. Hernandez dishes a ball into the area from three quarters, Pulisic finishes with a volley with his right foot with Caprile deflecting it onto the post, but on the rebound Morata is the quickest of all to reiterate it into the net for 1-0. The rossoblù, however, were not willing and at the 10th minute they immediately made it 1-1.
Felici advances past a too light Fofana in the middle of the field, serves Zortea at the limit who pierces Maignan in the corner, exploiting with a not irresistible right-footed shot on which the goalkeeper intervenes awkwardly. A few moments later, Fofana tries to come into his own, advances to the edge of the area and throws a right-footed shot which Caprile parries into a corner.

The former Napoli goalkeeper repeats himself in the 16th minute, when he saves Pulisic’s close-range right-footed shot for a corner, well cleared in the area by an assist from Leao. In the 22nd minute it was Hernandez who challenged the goalkeeper with a left-footed shot from 20 meters but the shot was blocked again with a dive. In the 34th minute, new substitute Jimenez goes to the right and crosses to the center for Abraham, who arrives at the ball slightly late and sends it high from an excellent position. The English center forward devours the 2-1 immediately afterwards, when he is launched into the net in depth but with his left foot he nullifies everything, allowing himself to be hypnotized by Caprile.
In full recovery, the goalkeeper again blocks Hernandez’s path by lifting a powerful but central free kick for a corner. Conceicao’s Milan miss the chance to get closer to the Champions League zone and remain in eighth place with 28 points to their credit. For Nicola’s Cagliari, third from last, a precious equal arrives in the fight not to be relegated.
