Napoli beats Verona 2-0 (and remains at the top of the table)

No problem for Antonio Conte’s Napoli, who beat Verona 2-0 and reaffirmed their first place at the top of the ranking with four points on Inter despite having two games more than the Nerazzurri. Montipò’s own goal at the dawn of the match and Anguissa’s goal fifteen minutes into the second half gave the Neapolitans their fifteenth victory of their season.

Five minutes were enough for Napoli to break the deadlock: Lukaku’s service with his back to goal for Di Lorenzo’s left foot, the ball hit first the post and then Montipo”s back and ended up in the net. Conte’s eleven started very strongly, and immediately after the 1-0 they would have two more chances to double the lead, following dangerous shots from Anguissa and Lukaku, both inaccurate from good positions. Verona tried to respond in the 14th minute with a cross looking for Tengstedt who headed the ball from the heart of the penalty area, narrowly missing the target. Napoli continues with its phrasing and continuous offensive accelerations that Verona manages as best it can, until the end of the first half, which ends with the Azzurri still leading by one goal.

Upon returning to the field, Napoli is once again intense in seeking the 2-0 goal, which will arrive in the 61st minute, on the phrasing once again facilitated by Lukaku this time for Anguissa’s long-range shot, lethal with the powerful left foot on which Montipò does not can do nothing. Verona thus seems to melt when the double disadvantage materializes, allowing Napoli to wisely manage the result. Three minutes of injury time meant that the Azzurri’s success was compromised, leaving Verona anchored just outside the safety zone, with just one point behind third-last Cagliari.
