FC Bayern continues to rely on storm talent Tel

FC Bayern is not planning a spectacular transfer swap of Chelsea star Christopher Nkunku and storm talent Mathys Tel. “The clear goal of all of us involved is for Mathys to make a breakthrough for us. And we believe in it too. Mathys believes in it and that’s why it’s currently not an issue for us to deal with other things,” said sports director Christoph Freund about a speculated deal with the two Frenchmen.

The media-speculated commitment of former Leipzig player Nkunku (27), who moved to Chelsea in the summer of 2023, is not an issue for Freund. “No. If we continue into the season like this – and that is our plan – then it’s not an issue that we need to bring someone in on offense because we are very, very well positioned there. In terms of quality and quantity,” emphasized Freund. Sports director Max Eberl had already explained to the sports director that there were no plans to loan Tel (19).

Tel should play an important role in the future

Tel was not used for FC Bayern this season as hoped. “Tel is a very important player for us,” said Freund. “We are in good communication with Mathys because he is simply a great, great talent.” He should “play an important role in the future.” But of course we talk about it when a player doesn’t get the minutes he’s hoping for. “We are very, very happy with our squad, with the number of players and also with the quality we have in the squad,” said Freund.

Several media outlets had speculated about an exchange between Nkunku’s side around advisor Pini Zahavi and the record champions. The Frenchman moved from Paris Saint-Germain to Leipzig in the summer of 2019, where he was a top performer. In the summer of 2023 he moved to England for around 60 million euros. His contract with Chelsea FC runs until mid-2029. That’s how long Tel’s contract in Munich runs.

Record national player Lothar Matthäus brought another plan for Tel into play. If attacker Omar Marmoush leaves Eintracht Frankfurt, the Bayern attacker would be in good hands there. Sports director Markus Krösche certainly has something up his sleeve – and that could be Tel, said Matthäus at a sponsor meeting (Interwetten). “Tel could fit. He has the speed and plays a similar position. I would have given Markus Krösche a tip.”
