France has banned fans of Feyenoord Rotterdam from traveling to the Champions League game against Lille on Wednesday next week because of fears of riots. The French Interior Ministry justified its ban by Feyenoord fans who regularly disrupted public order with acts of violence.
Lille fans also repeatedly attract attention with violence
Even at European away games, Feyenoord fans regularly cause public riots with injuries despite security measures taken by the authorities, according to the ministry’s order in the official gazette. Supporters of the Lille Olympique Sporting Club (LOSC) were also repeatedly seen using violence against law enforcement officers at home games.
The ban on the arrival of Dutch football fans applies from Monday morning to Wednesday evening next week. In addition to the northern French metropolis, it extends to some neighboring communities, both for individual supporters and for fan groups.
