The supporters’ drums made too much noise – the Helsinki sports hall would impose a ban

The equipment used to encourage the teams disturbs other users, explains the CEO of the hall.

from Helsinki Pirkkolahalli to the Facebook page an extraordinary announcement appeared on Thursday.

It was stated that drums, ratchets, Horns and similar loud sound-producing devices that are part of the encouragement of sports stands are prohibited in the hall. The justification is that they disturb other users of the hall.

CEO of Hall Kirsi Eräkangas confirms that the ban is correct. According to him, it’s common sense.

“The structures are such that it belongs elsewhere as well. There’s like 10,000 square meters of space, and a decent mecca gets in the way,” says Eräkangas.

According to Eräkankaa, the commotion has become so loud at times that it has become customer feedback from other users of the hall. A visit to the premises has shown that the feedback has been appropriate. According to him, the ban has been received with understanding.

Pirkkolahalli was completed in 2022. The hall responded to the crying need for indoor sports facilities in the capital region. Space has been found in the hall for actors of several different sports.

The ballrooms are located upstairs in the hall, the ground floor has, for example, facilities for gymnasts.

The matches played in the ballrooms are mainly junior basketball matches and inter-school matches. Occasionally, adult divisional games are also played in the halls. For example, basketball leagues are gradually starting to finish for this season.

Eräkangas emphasizes that he does not want to take a stand on the use of drums in arenas and places used for events.

“But we are not really an arena. This is not what it was made for,” he reminds.

The hall is used by, among others, the gymnastics clubs Elise Gymnastics and Pakilan Voimistelijat, the basketball club Torpan Pojat and the handball club Dicken.

Pirkkolahalli also has Padelclub Finland’s padel hall.
