Ida Hulkko is applying for a rectification of OKM’s grant decision

Ida Hulkko wonders about the grant decision.

Parisis A swimmer at the Olympics Ida Hulkko Applying for rectification to the Ministry of Education and Culture’s decision on athlete grants. OKM announced the recipients of summer sports, 162 athletes, last week, and Hulkko is not among them.

From swimmers Matti Mattsson Get a grant of € 20,000 and eight other swimmers get € 6,000. In addition to Hulko, without a scholarship, for example, there was a long-time European silver in the 50-meter breaststroke Veera Kivirinta.

Hulkko admits in an open letter sent to the Media that last year was not a success in his swimming career. However, he finished sixth in the 100m breaststroke in the long track European Championship and was 26th in Paris.

There would be other finals for the value races, as the Tampere team was fifth in the World Championships and sixth in the European Championships in the 50m breaststroke.

Hulkko says that he has asked for justification for the failure of the scholarship and received the answer that the European Championships are not part of the grant criteria, but are an additional evidence. In swimming value races, the long track World Championships and European Championships alternate, although exceptionally both were swimming last year.

“In practice, the reason I have received for swimmers means that grant screens can only be given every other year on Olympic trips,” Hulkko wonders.

He considers the distribution criteria of the scholarships to be unfair to the swimmers.

“If you are not even awarded to the European Final, if you are not even one of the most competitive ones on a global scale, how to even try to become a top athlete on a global scale?” Hulkko asks.

OKM announced the grant recipients on January 17. According to Hulko, athletes were not informed until January 20.
