Athletics|Blomqvist broke the 3,000m SE of indoor tracks.
Runner Nathalie Blomqvist broke the indoor women’s 3,000m Finnish record in Malaga, Spain, late on Saturday evening, SUL said on its pages. Blomqvist ran third in the international race with a time of 8:51.95, which is breaking by Camilla Richardsson by 1.65 seconds of SE’s run the other year.
Despite the record, the run was a little disappointing for Blomqvist, because he and his training partner are British Dear Hughes and Spanish Marta Garcia went to get the limit of 8:37.00 in the World Championship Halls in March.
“It took a long time to try to go get it. We had two hares, but we were too optimistic and went too hard. Jänis went in 2.51 for the first kilometer and I was a couple of seconds behind,” said Blomqvist.
“My run just didn’t work. I ran a large part of the distance alone, as did Marta and Cari, who passed us at the end and won.”
Hughes’ time was 8:50.40 and Garcia’s 8:51.63.
Blomqvist’s previous short track 3,000 meter record was 9:19.27, set three years ago. A year ago, he ran 8:49.25 on the long track in Tampere.
