DSV eagles fly behind in Oberstdorf

The ski flying home game in Oberstdorf did not bring the German ski jumpers the turnaround they had hoped for. In the second competition on the Heini-Klopfer ski jump, Karl Geiger finished eleventh on Sunday as the best of the again disappointing DSV Adler, Pius Paschke only came in 21st. A month before the World Championships in Trondheim, the podium remains for the so strong start to the season DSV Adler started far away.

In turbulent wind conditions, the Slovenian Domen Prevc won, making a Slovenian dream weekend perfect. The day before, his compatriot Timi Zajc had won, previously this season only Germans or Austrians were in first place – most recently the Austria Eagles won seven times in a row.

Hill record holder Prevc (242.5 m/2022) flew to 226.5 and 231.5 m (436.8 points) for his seventh World Cup victory. The Norwegian Johann Andre Forfang (433.2) came second ahead of the Austrian Michael Hayböck (429.1). The former flying world champion Geiger, already the best German in tenth place on Saturday, was twelve meters behind the podium. Vice world champion Andreas Wellinger fell short of his potential in 19th place and struggled with a lack of wind support. The five-time season winner Paschke, who completely failed his first flight, is still a shadow of his version of the first weeks of competition. Philipp Raimund (27th) also flew behind in his home country.

The German jumpers, who started the winter with six wins and nine podium places in the first eight individual competitions, missed the podium for the ninth time in a row – Paschke had last stood there as the winner in Titisee-Neustadt on December 15th.

The last home World Cup of the season continues next weekend in Willingen, after which there are “world trips” to Lake Placid (USA) and Sapporo (Japan) before the World Cup (February 26th to March 9th).
