Mick Schumacher wants to leave Formula 1 behind. “Formula 1 was always my dream and will always be my dream. The WEC (World Endurance Championship) is the number one priority, ”said Mick Schumacher on a media round on the sidelines of test drives in Monza. “That requires 100 percent dedication.”

At the end of last year, Schumacher decided to end his job as a Mercedes replacement man after two years. He wanted to “fully devote himself to the sporting aspect of racing” and not just watch. Previously, he had been a regular driver for the Formula 1 team Haas for two years, but then had not received a fixed cockpit.

In addition to his Mercedes job, Schumacher had an engagement at Alpine in the long-distance World Cup in 2024. At the 6-hour race in Fuji, he even landed in third place with his teammates Nicolas Lapierre and Matthieu. Before the start of the season at the end of February in Katar and the 24-hour classic in Le Mans in mid-June, the young German has long known: he can do it on the long distance.

“My dream is a dream, but when I sit in the car, I sit 100 percent in the car,” Schumacher described his focus on the tasks at Alpine, which is far from Formula 1. “The dream continues to live in the moments when I have free time and can think about it.”
