Julia Scheib after the debacle in the giant slalom: “It hurts brutally”

Whoever randomly in the next few days Julia Scheib or Stephanie Brunner Should run across the way, he is well advised not to address the two on the World Cup giant slalom. Otherwise it could be that you get dark eyes or possibly even be punished with contempt.

The mood of the Austrian giant slalom specialists commuted after the performance at the home world championship between frustration and fatalism. Julia Scheib described her state of mind with the words: “It hurts brutally.” Stephanie Brunner sounded like someone who has finished skiing. “It’s best to forget everything and don’t think about skiing.”

Construction site

The race on the Zwölferkogel relentlessly demonstrated that the giant slalom is a giant construction site. When Julia Scheib ended the years of series without a podium at the start of the season in Sölden, the valley sole finally seemed to go through, but the World Cup giant slalom was again a relapse into old negative patterns: The best Austrian was in 12th place (Katharina Liensberger), The hopeful with fall out (Julia Scheib), another starter with almost five seconds behind (Brunner). “We were definitely not there and without a chance,” said Roland Assinger, the head coach at the ÖSV women’s team.

The Carinthian missed the courage, joy and determination of his runners, i.e. all the characteristics that are needed for positive results. “You have to see the freedom of skiing. That was too much forced jacket and too little skiing, ”assinger complained about the giant slalom.

The Austrians had already taken from the medal race in the first round. Julia Scheib was already two and a half seconds behind at halftime and didn’t know how she happened. “I was at the finish at a loss. I can rule out that I was nervous, but I just couldn’t play my strength. ”

In the second round, the Styrian appeared more aggressive, but fabricated a departure on the target slope. Julia Scheib complained after the fall of pain in the right knee, but was able to give the all -clear after a first examination. But that was the only positive thing about a failed home World Cup, in which the 26-year-old did not finish two times (team competition, giant slalom).

The pain in the knee will probably pass faster than your frustration. “The disappointment is huge,” said Julia Scheib. “I will surely take some time to digest it all.”
