Austria and Vienna lurk on slips from St. Pölten

The women’s Bundesliga also wakes up from hibernation this weekend. Five rounds must still be completed in the basic round before the title race in the play-off is reopened. The title holder SKN St. Pölten is the hunted, Austria with three points and the Vienna with four points behind are in a lurk position.

In any case, the pursuers are prepared. “We had a good preparation,” says Austria defense chief Carina Wenninger. “It is now up to us to implement it all.”

The Austrians want to show their strength at the start of Lustenau/Dornbirn: “We work and defend well with each other, often played at zero. We are heavily switched, we have pace over the flanks. ”And with Verena Volkmer one goal scorer.

Vienna: young and brave

Wenninger also sees the Vienna as a serious competitor. “They are good and especially soccer with many young team players.”

You want to continue the path taken with young players at the high waiting, as coach Mark Dobrounig underlines: “We develop young players and they just need time, because the leap into the first team is already a big one. But that’s our way. ”

Likewise, you don’t want to shake the way you care. “We want to play courageously and with a certain risk.” After all, it’s not just about points, but also about attractiveness to inspire more spectators.

The goal of the Döblingen women is clear to the rest of the basic round: “We don’t want to lose a game,” said Dobrounig. A good start on Sunday at Sturm would be an advantage. In front of the play-offs you want to put yourself at the high wait. In any case, you would like to gain international experience again in the coming season – at least that’s why it takes third place in the league.

At the Doublesieger from St. Pölten there was a nice preservation just before Christmas. Trainer Liese Brancao asked for the termination of the contract after eight years. Time was ripe for a change. She followed as head coach Lisa Alzner, 26, after: “We have a great start in Graz in the Cup, we also want to take this swing with us for the first Bundesliga catch against the LASK.”

Change in St. Pölten

Alzner can choose from 16 team players from eight nations, but do not know who will be the top contact. Andrea Pichler will travel the presidency after only eleven months, “for health reasons”. Her husband, Spusu founder Franz Pichler, will remain as the largest donor.

A return is conceivable for ex-President Wilfried Schmaus: “I don’t say no forever, but not immediately. You have to talk to me. ”
