Basketball: End of season for Victor Wembanyama, injured in a shoulder

Bad news for basketball and Wemby fans! The San Antonio Spurs announced this Thursday evening that Victor Wembanyama was forced to put an end to his season in the NBA due to a “venous thrombosis on the right shoulder”. A badly detected at the end of the All Star Game held in San Francisco last weekend.

Thrombosis is the partial or total obstruction of a blood vessel by a blood clot. This most often happens in venous vessels and can be caused following a shock.

In early February, the number 1 of the Spurs had appeared out of shape, strangely without energy, during a match in Orlando (127-111). He had then made his worst match of the season (15 points) and seemed in difficulty to keep the pace of the meeting. Some then pointed out the hellish pace of the games and the trip to Paris for the two relocated NBA games where Wembanyama had multiplied to respond to all the requests.

This package for the rest of the season is a terrible stop for the Texan franchise – which was fighting for a place in play -in – and for Victor Wembanyama. Author until then of an almost perfect campaign with an average of 24.3 points, 11 rebounds, 3.8 counters and 3.7 assists in 46 games. The number 1 of the Draft 2023 and Rookie of the year in 2024 had left to have a historic season.

The native of Chesnay, who had just participated in his first the All Star Game, was favorite to win the title of best defender of the year. He will not be able to claim it since the NBA imposes a minimum of 65 games played to be eligible for individual awards.

If its season is therefore over, it remains to be seen when Victor Wembanyama can regain the path of the prosecution. He had announced his desire to participate in the Euro (in the event of qualification of the Blues) with the French team next summer. The announcement of his health problem could prevent it.
