Olympic champion Ogunleye wins with best performance

Kunkenschraft Olympic champion Yemisi Ogunleye has secured her second German championship title in the hall with a personal best. The 26-year-old won the first attempt in Dortmund with 20.27 meters. Ogunleyes’ previous record was 20.19 meters.

The athlete from MTG Mannheim also set an example to international competition. Only the Canadian Sarah Mitton (20.68 meters) has been better this year. Ogunleye is a top favorite at the European Hallen European Championship in the Dutch Apeldoorn in almost two weeks.

The second behind Ogunleye was in Dortmund Katharina Maisch, who also achieved a personal best with 19.10 meters. Third place went to Alina Kenzel with 18.36 meters.

Lea Meyer replaces Gesa Krause over the 3000 meters

Eric Maihöfer secured the title among men. The athlete from VfL Sindelfingen from Baden-Württemberg pushed the ball to 20.37 meters and thus achieved a personal best. Defending champion Silas Ristl was second with 19.68 meters.

Over the 3000 meters in an exciting men’s race, Maximilian Thorwirth won in 7: 51.03 minutes ahead of Florian Bremm (7: 51.13 minutes) and Sam Parsons (7: 52.32 minutes). Obstacle specialist Lea Meyer won the women in 8: 53.82 minutes. Defending champion Gesa Krause was not at the start and missed the indoor season this time.
