Pirkka’s skiing is completely canceled – only the third time in 70 years

An unhappy snow situation led to the cancellation of Pirkka skiing.

From spring Since 1955, the Pirkka Skiing, which has been held annually, will have to be completely canceled this year.

This is only the third time in the 70-year history of the event, when skiers cannot reach the route at all.

The traditional 90 kilometer journey had already been abandoned due to the snow situation. On Monday, the organizers announced that even a shorter Kangas-Pirkka as a contingency plan would not be able to arrange for snow deficiency on Sunday, March 2.

“It is very annoying when now the event was about to come as the event approached. The skiers clearly had the enthusiasm and faith to the end, ”Pirkka Ski Service Manager Joun outdoors said in the bulletin.

“We would have received a very 500 participants, which would have been a really tough number given this winter.”

Bad The snow situation led to the cancellation of the entire event in the spring of 2014. In 2021, the cancellation was due to the corona situation.

According to the original plan, the skiers were supposed to advance from Kankaanpää to Ylöjärvi. The organizers are still supporting some small wishes that on Saturday, March 8, they can organize a self -service backpack.

“Unfortunately, the weather forecasts do not support this option either,” Välisalo laments.

Pirkka’s skiing runs from Kankaanpää Niinisalo to Teivo Ylöjärvi.
