Football: The owner of SCO Angers renounces his call after his conviction for sexual assault

Said Chabane, owner of the Angers football club (L1), sentenced in 2024 by the criminal court for sexual assault, withdrew from his appeal, the general prosecutor’s office of the Angers Court of Appeal announced on Friday.

On March 22, 2024, the Angers Criminal Court condemned Said Chabane to two years’ imprisonment, including a year suspended, for acts of sexual assault per person abusing the authority conferred on him, committed between January 2014 and December 2019, to the damage of six victims. He had been released for the benefit of doubt in a seventh file.

“Said Chabane had appealed this decision and the case was to be examined by the Court of Appeal on April 28 and 29, 2025,” according to the press release from the General Prosecutor’s Office. But “Said Chabane having withdrawn from his appeal on February 26, 2025 and the public prosecutor then withdrawn from his main appeal, the judgment of March 22, 2024 is now final both on the criminal level and on the civil level,” said the general prosecutor’s office.

 

The two lawyers for Said Chabane confirmed the withdrawal in a statement on Friday afternoon.

“After careful thinking, Mr. Chabane chose to preserve his family, his family, his relatives, but also the many witnesses who had filed in his favor, from the test of a new judicial soap opera. After months of fighting, he decided himself to turn the page and leave behind this painful episode for the sake of appeasement, “said Bernard Benaïem and Pascal Rouiller.

 

During the trial, former employees of SCO d’Angers and the Charcuterie company of Said Chabane had said that they had undergone forced embrace and touching with buttocks and chest. Owner of the club since 2011, Saïd Chabane was one of the main players of the spectacular Recovery of Angers on the sporting plan with in particular a return to L1 in 2015 then again in 2024, after a passage in L2 in 2023.
