Goodbye to Bruno Pizzul, historic voice of the national football team

Mourning for the world of journalism and sport. Bruno Pizzul died at the hospital in Gorizia. He would have turned 87 on March 8th. Born in Udine in 1938, Pizzul was A legendary figure of Italian sports journalism. His career, which began after a promising path as a footballer interrupted by an accident, led him to become one of the most recognizable and loved voices of Italian television.

After graduating in Law and taught literary subjects, Pizzul entered Rai in 1969, winning a national competition for commentators. His debut as a commentator took place in 1970 with the Juventus-Bologna match, a play-off of the Italian Cup. From that moment, his career took off, leading him to tell five World Championships and four Europeans, as well as countless games of the Italian national team. His last commentary dates back to 2002, with Italy-Slovenia.

Pizzul was a vocal witness of unforgettable moments, such as Schillaci’s goal in Italy ’90 and the dramatic rigor wrong by Roberto Baggio in the final of the 1994 World Cup.
