Israel González is released with immediate effect

Israel González is not just a good coach who has already won titles as a head coach with Alba, ”said Alba’s sports director Himar Ojeda. “He has also been in our club for many years, has internalized the Alba-DNA and had a decisive part in the great successes of recent years.”

In view of the lack of sporting development, management came to the conviction that this constellation did not make the best of the possibilities. “With Pedro Calles, we have a proven expert who has been able to settle in with us in the past few months,” said Ojeda.

Israel González came to Alba in 2017 as an assistant coach from Aíto Garcia Reneses, after both had coached together at CB Gran Canaria for two seasons. In this role, González won two championships and a cup title with the Albatrossen and reached the final of the Eurocup in 2018/19.

After four joint seasons at Alba, González took over the head coaching post from Aíto at the beginning of the 2021/22 season, after working as Associate Headcoach in the season. In his first season as a head coach, he led Alba to the double of the championship and cup victory. The 50-year-old stood on the sidelines at the Berliners in 290 games as head coach and celebrated the German championship three times with the Albatrossen and the BBL Cup title twice.
