Caballero asks Louzán to “change criteria” for the World Cup headquarters: “This is very serious”

Vigo’s PP asks the City Council and the Federation for a “serious work” to clarify the selection of the stadiums

The mayor of Vigo, Abel Caballero, has requested on Monday explanations to the president of the Royal Spanish Football Federation, Rafael Louzán, about the “change of criteria” executed for the selection of the stadiums that will host the 2030 World Cup, which will take place between Spain, Morocco and Portugal.

In a press conference convened urgently after being published by the newspaper ‘El Mundo’ an information that ensures that the Federation “manipulated” the headquarters of the headquarters to leave out Vigo and put Anoeta, Caballero has pointed out that it was a technical team that chose Balaídos as headquarters but, 48 hours later (according to ‘The World’), the criteria were changed: “This is very serious.”

“Maybe someone wanted to leave Vigo out,” said the olivic councilor, without wanting to directly point to Louzán, although asking for explanations because “it does not seem that it was the technical team” who changed the criteria, as he said.

In his speech, Caballero explained the events since the beginning, indicating that on June 25 the evaluation team developed a list in which Vigo was placed as the headquarters of the 2030 Football World Cup, but it was not made public. This document was sent to Rafael Louzán, the mayor added.

Two days later, the list had changed, staying out and, the following week, it is Louzán himself who confirms that Vigo will not be host “for a small difference.”

It is almost a month later when the City Council receives a notification that informed him that Vigo would not be the headquarters of the World Cup, so the local government demanded the scores and reasons.

In this regard, Caballero has lamented the different explanations that were given to him, indicating that in the first place he assured that Vigo was out for the “low financial structure” of the candidacy, indicating the mayor that the City Council has “zero debt” and that it could face the reform of Balaídos “without help” if necessary.

Also the vice president of the Galician Football Federation declared that Vigo had not entered because “he did not go hand in hand” of the Federation. Later, he appealed to the size of the stadium, insisting a gentleman in which Balaidos can reach 43,500 seats that FIFA asks for with the reform proposal provided by the City Council.

In addition, Caballero recalled that a few weeks ago he asked for the cessation of the Minister of the Presidency, Xustiza E Deportes, Diego Calvo, for indicating that Vigo was out because of the “lack of influence” of the local government.

Given all this, Caballero has insisted on “obscurantism” and “opacity” with which the choice of venues has been carried out, again demanding Louzán to appear to give explanations about what happened.

Vigo pp

For its part, the Vigo PP has asked the City Council and the Federation to carry out a “technical, serious and contrastable” work to clarify the procedure carried out for the selection of the 2030 World Cup headquarters.

In an audio disseminated to the media, the president of the local PP, Luisa Sánchez, has asked the municipal government not to be limited to a “commentator position, with high statements and television passages”, but opens a technical interlocution route to defend Vigo’s candidacy.

Thus, he has requested a “productive work and explanations instead of crosses of accusations that do not lead to anything”, remembering that the ‘popular’ have requested that the scores of the selection process be published.
