The Upper Austrian Horst Nussbaumer Is the new one President of the Austrian Olympic Committee (ÖOC).
The 53 -year -old was elected on Monday in a hotel in the Vienna Prater at a decent ÖOC general meeting together with the Presidium and the board of elections for four years in accordance with the election list presented one month before. As the successor to the 15 -year, 5 months and 2 days in office Karl Stoss Is the twelfth ÖOC president.
Nussbaumer: “Big privilege and special honor”
44 representatives of specialist associations, the umbrella organizations ASVÖ, ASKÖ and Sportunion, as well as Sport Austria, two athlete representatives and bump were entitled to vote. Of these 51, 49 were present, 48 votes were also made. There were 42 votes for Nussbaumer and his list, there were two votes against four abstentions.
“It is a great privilege and a special honor to be able to work as President for the Austrian Olympic Committee for the Olympic Movement and the Olympic Associations,” said Nussbaumer after choice. “With the aim of creating the best possible conditions for our athletes, trainers, trainers and the whole environment in order to get the best performances at the world’s largest sporting event and – if everything really fits on day X – also be able to win medals.”
New ÖOC boss triple Olympic participant
The married father of a 24-year-old daughter and a 26-year-old son spoke to Stoss and the previous board as well as the previous general secretary Peter Mennel thank you for always putting the active in the first place. “The Austrian Olympic Committee is now strong, stable and internationally valued and recognized. Nussbaumer took part in the Summer Games in 1992, 1996 and 2000 as a rower, with his best placement ranked ninth in 1996. In 2013, Nussbaumer took over the presidency of the Austrian Rowing Association (ÖRV) and currently has it. However, new elections are still pending this year. The 1.88 m large official has been a member of the board since 2017. Professionally, he heads the “Family Wealth Management” in Vienna at Bankhaus Spängler.

The new ÖOC boss also gave further insights into its plans on Monday. “We want to do it as quickly as possible. Standstill is step backwards. In a first step, I would like to seek talking to all the institutions of Austrian sport,” announced Nussbaumer as part of the approximately three -hour meeting. “We will further develop the mission statement and vision of the ÖOC and see what it takes to raise top Olympic sport to the next level. Because what was standard yesterday is already too little today.”
In order to remain internationally competitive, there must be the same conditions as in other nations – with the infrastructure, in the field of sports science, in material and technology. “We want to inspire politics for our cause so that it shows even more commitment to go the way with us.” The leader of the association Roswitha Stadlober (Ski) and Elisabeth Max-theurer (equestrian sport) and Vice President Markus Prock (toboggan) were elected as Nussbaumer’s vice presidents. As a member of the IOC, Stoss remains a member of the ÖOC board.
Gosch since Monday new ÖOC general secretary
Matthias Guggenberger, elected by 2026, also belongs as a athlete representative. The other eight places on the board take Johannes Goess-Saurau (Golf), Gabriela Jahn (gymnastics), Gernot Leitner (volleyball), Markus Plazer (handball), Martin Poiger (Judo) Dieter Schneider (sailing), Sonja Spendelhofer (athletics) and Yasmin Stepina (Eishockey). The auditors are Walter Kapounek (hockey) and Ulrich Zafoschnig (Sportunion), auditor Andrea Schellner (ASVÖ). The new ÖOC general secretary has been the Styrian Florian Gosch since Monday.
The 44-year-old was not available, but had already been appointed by the ÖOC Presidium last June. Mennel took office at the request of the Vorarlberg, however, around three months earlier than originally planned. Nussbaumer stated that the board had “an incredible amount of know-how”. Together and with Gosch, the previous path is to be continued and sustainably and carefully managed. “The Olympic values of Excellence, respect and friendship are above everything – we want to build the future of the ÖOC on this.”
In his speech regarding the end of his presidency, Stoss took bond bond in his passion. “My time as an ÖOC president is comparable to a demanding mountain tour, characterized by challenges, also by setbacks, but above all by many unforgettable summit moments. I was always able to rely on an outstanding team that was led by our general secretary Peter Mennel.” At the general meeting, Stoss, Mennel, Herbert Houf, Herbert Hübel and Peter Kleinmann were elected to be ÖOC-Honoring members.
