In view of the budget shortening of almost half a million euros, the German Judo Association has reacted and, in addition to savings in the area of competitive sports, also announced a reduction in its leadership. On Tuesday, Johannes Karsch moved to the board and will lead the DJB together with Michael Bazynski as a double top. “On the one hand, we have experienced enormous cost increases in recent years, on the other hand, we now have to make do with significantly fewer funding,” says association president Thomas Schynol: “After the separation from Frank Doetsch and the farewell to Malte Geppert at the beginning of the year, the DJB is currently only one of the two positions.”
The DJB has to make up for less funding at 486,000 euros. The competitive sport responsible for the former women’s coach Bazynski with savings of almost 200,000 euros must plan for the current season. Karch, even long active judoka, wants to focus on better marketing the sport. Among other things, the DJB must further develop its live and streaming events and communicate the “enormous added value for society more clearly”. The DJB is one of the German specialist associations that are particularly affected by the federal government, including the German Athletics Association and the Badminton Association.
