Linda Sällström: Helmarit wanted to boycott Belarus

Finland would not have wanted to face Belarus in the League of Nations.

Finnish The women’s soccer team will face a special situation in the League League match on Friday. The home match is known, but the stage is Milan.

The reason is in the opponent. Belarus was anything but a desired resistance for pearls.

Belarus supports the Russian offensive war in Ukraine. The country is therefore widely closed to international sports, as is Russia. However, the European Football Association, UEFA, has closed only Russia, not Belarus.

Finnish striker Linda Sällström says the players talked about boycotting the match. However, in practice it turned out to be impossible.

“As soon as the result of the draw, we have been of the opinion that Uefan should have closed the Belarusian League League. It is unfortunate that our players will be placed in a situation where we have to play against them,” Sällström says.

Fighter discussed the matter with the team captain. The situation was clear. In addition to scores, boycotting games would also know other sanctions.

“We went through different options. Points and other penalties would not have been fair punishables. The suffering would have been unfair. The players should not be set in such a situation that we have to choose.

The Football Association decided to take the home match to Italy. Sällström says the team “will have to play” this match.

“The union consults us and made a common decision. This is our common line.”

“The best thing about all would be to take a big win over this game.”

Elli Pikkujämsä is one of Helmar’s credit players.

Broadcast It does not show the encounter between Finland and Belarus at all, even though it has the rights to show games in the League of Nations. Sällström understands the solution of YLE, though he considers it unfortunate.

“The situation is peculiar in every way. They have their own line and they made their own decision. I respect it. I am still annoyed by the team and fans. Ideally, we would have another opponent and could play at home. We are a tough home team.”

The match on Thursday can be viewed on the YouTube channel of the Football Association.

According to the power striker, the preparation for the match itself has gone quite normally, even though the resistance is not pleased. There is enough monitoring material and the team has been able to refine their game.

“It would be best for everyone to take a big win over this game. It would be the desired result for this job.”

The Finnish-Valko-Russia match will be played on Friday in Nova, Italy at 6 pm.
