Ski: the Italian Federica Brignone will be operated after a heavy fall

A champion in the carpet. The Italian Federica Brignone, winner of the 2024-2025 World Cup in alpine skiing, fell heavily during the giant slalom of the Italian championships on Thursday in Val di Fassa, in the northeast of the country. And will have to be operated on.

Brignone, 34, suffers “from a multifragmentary fracture with displacement of the tibial plateau and the head of the peron of the left leg”, said the Italian federation in its press release.

 

“The FISI medical committee carefully follows the state of health of the Val d’Aosta skier and organized its transfer to the La Madonnina clinic in Milan, where radiological examinations will be carried out and the surgical course established,” concludes the text.

The duration of its unavailability is not specified, but this injury will, at least, reduce its preparation for the 2025-26 season, whose culmination will be the OJ-2026 of Milan Cortina (February 6-22) of which it must be one of the favorites.

 

Brignone was injured in what was to be one of her last winter races during the giant slalom of the Italian championships on the Alpe Lussia estate in Val Di Fassa (Northeast).

At the head after the first round, she struck on the second line a door head -up and was violently propelled on the track, according to a video broadcast on social networks. She lost her skis and her race ended after several convertibles on herself.

Touched with a leg, Brignone was initially transported by rescuers in tray to the bottom of the track. The 2025 giant slalom world champion, accompanied by her brother and coach Davide, was then evacuated as a helicopter to the Santa Chiara Hospital in thirty.

Brignone, 34, dominated the 2024-25 season on the female circuit with ten World Cup victories, the big globe of world N.1 and the descent and giant globes. In addition to the world title in giant, she won the Super-G silver medal at the Salbach-2025 Worlds (Austria).

She is one of the most solid chances of medals in Italy during the 2026 Olympics where she hopes to win an Olympic title, the only line that is missing from her record.

 

The 2024-2025 season was marked by several heavy falls. They notably concerned the French Cyprien Sarrazin and Alexis Pinturault.
