Next bitter news for FC Bayern: The injury-plagued German football record champion has to do without Jamal Musiala in the crucial weeks and probably even until the end of the season. In the derby at FC Augsburg (3-1), the 22-year-old moved a muscle bundle tear in the left, rear thigh and “for the time being” fails, as his club announced.
Such a injury results in a downtime of six to eight weeks. It is hardly to be expected that Musiala is coming up again in the Bundesliga or Champions League this season. In eight and a half weeks, the national team will contest the final Four of the Nations League with the semi -finals in Munich against Portugal on June 4th. After a possible final on June 8, the club World Cup in the USA will also be on the program in the Allianz Arena from June 13th.
For Bayern, Musialas failure is a serious blow in the title hunt. On Tuesday (9 p.m., Amazon Prime) there will be a first leg against Inter Milan in the quarter -finals of the Champions League, and the “Finale Dahoam” in Munich will increase on May 31. Before the second leg in Italy on April 16, Borussia Dortmund will be guest in the Bundesliga classic in Munich. Other opponents in the master fight are Heidenheim, Mainz, Leipzig, Gladbach and Hoffenheim.
Musiala initially made compensation in Augsburg (42nd minute). At the beginning of the second half, he stayed on the lawn and held his thigh. After a short treatment, he went off the pitch from two supervisors. “I don’t want to whine,” said coach Vincent Kompany, sports director Max Eberl emphasized: “Now the others have to jump into the breach. We know that we can win without a Jamal.”
Musiala is the sixth prominent failure. Bayern also have to do without Captain Manuel Neuer, Dayot Upamecano, Alphonso Davies, Hiroki Ito and Aleksandar Pavlovic. Kingsley Coman, who also lacked in Augsburg, could be there again.
