Alcaraz needs a ‘tie break’ to beat Quinn on his return to Barcelona

Spanish tennis player Carlos Alcaraz won this Tuesday the American Ethan Quinn (6-2 and 7-6[6]) at 1:46 hours of the first round of Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell-72º Trophy Conde de Godó, in a somewhat rugged return for the Murcian, who last year could not play for injury, in a Barcelona tournament whose track Rafa Nadal celebrated the triumph of those who aspire to recover the lost throne.

Carlos Alcaraz comes from winning the 1,000 masters of Montecarlo and with just one day of rest he had to face a premiere in Barcelona that was more complicated than one could expect from a first round, before a quinn that is the number 126 of the world but that, after removing the nerves of the debut on the Rafa Nadal track above all a former world of the world, it went to more.

The second set lasted more than an hour, counting the 9:19 minutes that lasted a ‘tie break’ that was necessary, after 6-6 in that second manga, to allow Carlos Alcaraz to remain alive and in search of what would be his third Trophy Count of Godó (he won in 2022 and 2023) but verify, in turn, that he will need rest and find his best tennis to be surprised. This time, after a great first set, the surprise was touched in the second.

Unlike some matches in this start of 2025, or some matches of Montecarlo in particular, this time Carlos Alcaraz did go for all of the start and despite a very long game (about 11 minutes) in which he let up up to three breaks of breakage, he was gradually imposing his service and his game to dislodge Quinn, who held his first service but then came to see 5-1 below after the two.

In the second set it was expected to see a more aggressive Alcaraz and a quinn surpassed by the stage, in a crowded Rafa Nadal track that remailed against him already favor of the Murcian, without a doubt the favorite of the Barcelona fans. But it was the opposite, and that of Fresno (California) took off the pressure on and began to put inside the rackets that he released from the bottom of the track, in addition to finding some more success in his service, very powerful but unreliable in the first set.

In fact, the second manga began with a ‘break’ of Spanish but Quinn made ‘counterbreak’ and then could retain his serve and return to the El Palmar to get 1-3 above. Alcaraz recovered one of the breaks and reached 5-5 with good blows of blows, with few left ‘brand’ brand ‘of Alcaraz.

And when Alcaraz got 6-5 above breaking the American serve, he could not retain his service in search of the party and it was Quinn who forced a ‘tie break’ in which Alcaraz took his claw to celebrate with the closed fist the most important points, in a sudden death full of breaks and uncertainty in which Alcaraz came to save a set of set against The first game ball. And now, on Thursday in the second round, a duel against the Serbian Laslo Djere awaits.
