On the day Diego Armando Maradona would have turned 65 (he was born on 30 October 1960), Nicola Di Bari and Vittorio Grigolo announce the release of the song “From time to time”, available from November 14th on the radio and on all digital platforms. The song, written in Spanish by Egale Cerroni, with music by Sergio Rendine and arrangement by Demo Morselliis published by Clodio Music and distributed by Believe.
The bond between Di Bari and Maradona dates back to the champion’s early days: in a famous interview, the young Diego declared that his favorite singer was Nicola Di Bari himself.
But more than a commemoration, “De vez en cuando” is a musical journey into the light that Maradona continues to emanate, as the protagonists themselves explain. “I am very happy to have taken part in this project together with my friend Vittorio Grigolo – says Nicola Di Bari – with whom I discovered I had an incredible understanding and whom I love very much, because, in addition to being a great artist, he is a gentleman of great sensitivity. Together we wanted to remember and celebrate a star who will never be forgotten, Maradona, who I had the pleasure of meeting when he was little more than a child. He lived his life with great passion, through ups and downs, but always with great frankness and simplicity. Against the backdrop of the wonderful city of Naples, Vittorio and I, with the help of a special team, wanted to enhance its romantic aspect with this tribute of ours, which saw us close in an experience lived with passion, joy and love for music”.
He echoes it Vittorio Grigolowhich underlines the human and artistic value of the meeting: “Few times in my life have I looked across such a beautiful soul… few because perhaps there are few such beautiful souls. This happened to me as soon as we met our gazes. Through which I saw the great man, the father, the husband and the artist Nicola Di Bari who I call Maestro. The time spent together creating this exciting duet was for me a moment of inspiration, of spontaneous and disarming learning. Disarming because faced with such simplicity and greatness one finds oneself not only at ease but displaced by so much well-being and love. Thank you Nicola for these moments and for your time which I hope to be able to share again in the future and not only during the promotion of this wonderful song sung together. Maradona and your stories about his being a man and a character, on and off the pitch, have fascinated me and I am convinced that not only in Argentina but across the globe this motif and this story will echo in music, where our voices together with so many emotions will continue to resonate. tell the magic of the great, unique, unpredictable and brilliant Diego. Thank you very much.”
Telling the genesis of the song is Egale Cerroni, author of the text: “When I read this news, an idea exploded inside me which, shortly after, turned into a real obsession, leading me to reflect for a long time. I met Vittorio Grigolo many years ago, he was the young protagonist of an opera by Maestro Sergio Rendine for which I had written the libretto. We were at the Teatro dell’Opera in Rome, it was November 2002, the opera is ‘Romance – a Roman fable’. His natural talent was dazzling even then, even to those who were not musicians. From then until now I have always imagined Vittorio as a ‘Maradona from another field’, his aforementioned obsession consisted in incessantly imagining the two great artists, from different eras and generations, united in the same song. And so, a few months ago, I decided to pick up the phone. Gratias, was welcomed with enthusiasm by both of us. It is a great honor for me. Furthermore, Vittorio wanted to take over the reins of this extraordinary adventure and his drive immediately led to the creation of a fantastic team to which, personally, I would like to express all my respect and gratitude: Demo Morselli, Nicodemo Scilanga, Andrea Natale and Gianluca Ricotti (Jurij). Rendine, the Master. He wished with all his heart that this song would see the light. Here it is, my friend!”
“De vez en cuando” is a tribute that unites generations, languages and sensitivity, to tell the magic of Diego Armando Maradona in music.
