Ex-employees stole 1.5 million, claims the umbrella organization

The international athletics federation World Athletics has taken the matter to the authorities.

The International Association of Athletics Federations (WA) said on Thursday that two of its former employees and a former consultant have embezzled approximately 1.5 million euros from it.

The sport’s umbrella organization accuses them of “systematic theft” and has taken the matter forward to the authorities.

WA said that one of the employees left the organization even before the misconduct was discovered. The contracts of another employee and the consultant were terminated after an internal investigation.

Director of WA Sebastian Coe vowed to use the full force of the law to get the organization back its money.

“Too many organizations sweep cases like this under the rug and terminate employment with limited information, allowing the perpetrators to continue their scams in new organizations. But we’re not that kind of organization,” Coe said.
