Accident in Moto3 race: After cardiac arrest: motorcycle pilot responsive again

The Swiss motorcycle rider Noah Dettwiler is still on the road to recovery after his serious accident at the Moto3 race in Malaysia. He is now awake and communicating with his family and doctors, his team said. Dettwiler left the intensive care unit and was transferred to a private clinic in Kuala Lumpur. The 20-year-old still has a long recovery process ahead of him.

No longer in mortal danger

It had already been announced on Wednesday that the young motorcycle pilot’s life was no longer in danger. However, according to his team, Dettwiler had to undergo several emergency operations. After the violent accident in the warm-up lap in Sepang last Sunday, the Swiss suffered several cardiac arrests and had to be resuscitated. The pilot’s team has now also confirmed the father’s corresponding descriptions.

Crack discovered in the neck

In the hospital, Dettwiler’s spleen was removed, among other things, to stop the severe bleeding, it said. His leg, where he had suffered an open fracture, was operated on. The driver also suffered severe lung contusions. After further X-ray examinations, a tear in the neck was discovered, the team said.

Dettwiller had to wear a neck brace for several weeks and also have to have another operation on his leg. It remains unclear when he can return to Switzerland.
