Australia ‘defends’ Oscar Piastri. The Australian McLaren driver took second place in the Qatar Grand Prix, won by Max Verstappen, but was overtaken by the Dutchman in the Drivers’ classification, dropping to third position with just one decisive race, in Abu Dhabi, before the end of the Formula 1 World Championship. Piastri is in fact at 392 points, -4 from Verstappen and -16 from Lando Norris, currently leader of the general classification.
During the duel for the title that took place in recent months with his teammate Norris, McLaren was accused of favoring the Englishman to the detriment of the Australian. And now, it is even the government of the oceanic country that is getting on track.

“It’s been a frustrating night for Australians,” said Senator Matt Canavan during a debate session in the Australian Senate, before turning directly to Home Affairs Minister Tony Burke: “Do you think McLaren is penalizing Oscar Piastri and that this will cost him the World Championship title?”
A question that generated hilarity in the room, but to which the minister replied seriously: “In my opinion, yes. I think they have made some ‘noisy’ decisions this year. And for someone who has a daughter obsessed with Formula 1, I think she will go home very angry.”
