The German handball champion Füchse Berlin has made the mega transfer of Simon Pytlick from Bundesliga competitor SG Flensburg-Handewitt official. The Danish world champion and Olympic champion is moving to the capital for the 2027/28 season and has signed a contract until 2030, as the Berliners announced.
“This is a huge step for us. From my point of view, Simon had no doubts when we had the first contact,” said Füchse coach and sports director Nicolej Krickau. “Simon will fit our concept perfectly because we want to play attractive and effective handball.” Managing director Bob Hanning added: “It’s great that a player like Simon Pytlick has joined Füchsen Berlin.”
Flensburg doesn’t want to lose Pytlick in 2026
After months of contract poker, an exit clause makes the change possible. The Foxes are also keeping their promise to their world handball player Mathias Gidsel to strengthen the team with top-class talent.
The 24-year-old backcourt player has been linked to the Berliners for months. The transfer poker temporarily overshadowed the sporting headlines, so that Flensburg was forced to comment. “We will not give up Simon in the summer of 2026,” the SG made clear in October. Now the change is taking place a year later. The execution had become apparent in the past few days.
According to dpa information, the transfer fee is well below the rumored 750,000 euros. According to rumors, a change in the summer of 2026 is not yet definitely off the table. But then the Foxes would have to make further financial contributions.
Gidsel and Pytlick: friends since their youth
The two-time world handball player Gidsel was assured when his contract was extended in February: the team would be strengthened with additional star players in order to expand the collection of titles.
Gidsel and Pytlick have known each other since they were young, are close friends and celebrated Olympic gold and two World Cup titles together on the Danish national team. The Berliners should also push for the signing of the exceptional French player Dika Mem from FC Barcelona. A backcourt with Mem, Gidsel and Pytlick would be second to none.
