Dusan Vlahovic’s injury keeps Juventus anxious, how is he and when will he return? These are the questions that animate the Juventus fans, after the attacker stopped during the last championship match against Cagliari. Vlahovic underwent instrumental tests today, Monday 1 December, which highlighted a “high-grade injury” to the left adductor.
The Serbian striker’s season will resume in the spring. The long stop becomes a question mark for Juve and for the player: will the club return to the market for a new striker? Is Vlahovic open to renewing his contract which expires in June 2026?
Vlahovic’s injury and when he returns
Juventus itself communicated the extent of Vlahovic’s problem with a note on its official channels: “Following the muscle problem suffered during the Juventus-Cagliari match, this morning Dusan Vlahovic underwent radiological tests at Jmedical”.

“Instrumental tests have highlighted a high-grade lesion of the muscle-tendon junction of the left adductor longus. Further medical consultations will be necessary to define the most appropriate therapeutic methods.”
“As far as precise times are concerned, we need to talk to the doctors, because they are the ones who know things. I believe that 2/3 months out could be enough”, said Juventus coach Luciano Spalletti, in a press conference on the eve of the Italian Cup match against Udinese. “Football in general is a ball that rotates and creates opportunities continuously. Now it’s a question of seizing them and knowing how to see them, so anything is possible but I preferred to have him available, because he was very much inside the team”, added Spalletti. The appointment is therefore set for 2026, with the injury that will keep Vlahovic out of action until at least next February, but there is a risk that the time could be extended until March.
What’s changing on the market
Vlahovic’s injury opens up inevitable considerations transfer market. The Serbian center forward, as mentioned, has a contract expiring in 2026 and from January he will be free to sign for another club. One more reason for the Juventus management to look for a striker, especially considering the adaptation difficulties encountered by the two summer signings.
Both Jonathan David, who arrived as a free agent from Leipzig, and Lois Openda, on loan from Leipzig, have failed to make an impact at the start of the season. The Canadian returned to scoring goals in the Champions League against Bodo after his only goal for Juventus had come on the first day, while the Frenchman only collected one goal, also in this case in the away match in Norway.
It is therefore probable that Juventus could think about bringing in another striker, even if it appears difficult that the club can afford to make a significant investment in January. The simplest path therefore leads to a loan, perhaps with a purchase option to be exercised in June.
