Ourense also ‘kills’ Girona and Villarreal is saved on penalties

Ourense CF, from the First Federation, eliminated Girona FC (2-1) this Wednesday and advanced to the round of 32 of the Copa del Rey MAPFRE, in a single-match round in which Villarreal had to resort to penalties to get rid of Antoniano (1-1, 3-5 on penalties) and in which Real Betis, Real Sociedad, Levante and Elche, the latter in extra time, did not fail.

One of the big surprises of the night was once again carried out by the team from Ourense, which in the previous round had already managed to ‘kill’ another Primera, Real Oviedo. It took just a minute for the locals to take the lead in O Couto, after Álvaro Yuste headed a corner kick into the back of the net.

Yaser Asprilla equalized the match in the 25th minute after chasing a rebound after a missed penalty, shortly before Abel Ruiz left the field injured and in tears. Elche also had to resort to extra time against Quintanar del Rey (1-2). Ali Houary, in the 48th minute, broke the hostilities and put the Elche team ahead, although Eric Iglesias scored the goal in the 70th minute that allowed the locals to force extra time. In it, Héctor Fort came to the rescue and took Éder Sarabia’s team to the sixteenth.

Real Betis had much less trouble at the Ciutat de València, where they knocked out Torrent (1-4). The green and white team opened the scoring thanks to a low cross shot from Roro Riquelme. Just before half-time, the former Atlético de Madrid midfielder scored the second in an action in which he chipped the ball over Torrent goalkeeper Marc Dolz.

The man from Madrid still had time to add to his tally, already in the second half, finishing off a pass from Pablo García to the far post in the 74th minute, before Armando, in the 85th minute, scored the goal of honor for Torrent. Ángel Ortiz closed the Betic victory on the verge of reaching the end.

For its part, Real Sociedad met expectations against Reus (0-2), although it suffered to tie the result; After 0-0 at half-time, Mikel Goti scored the first shortly after the match resumed, and Umar Sadiq secured the victory in stoppage time. Meanwhile, Levante made a solitary goal from Unai Vencedor count in the 57th minute to advance to the round against Cieza (0-1).
