The Spanish tennis player Carlos Alcaraz defeated the Brazilian Joao Fonseca this Monday (7-5, 2-6 and 10-8), in an exhibition match played in Miami, corresponding to the Miami Invitational, with the Murcian also previously playing a doubles clash with the American Jessica Pegula, which they won 10-8 against Fonseca and Amanda Anisimova.
It was the first time that Alcaraz and Fonseca faced each other, so there was great expectation in the stands at LoanDeport Park, with the match meeting the expectations generated. The world number one won the first set 7-5, but the Brazilian tennis player managed to respond and take the second set by a clear 2-6.
Alcaraz ended up winning the match after a very close ‘super tie-break’, in which Fonseca went 0-5 ahead on the scoreboard. The Murcian tennis player turned this result around and won the Miami Invitational, closing a perfect day after having previously won the doubles with Jessica Pegula.
The pair formed by the Spaniard and the American defeated Joao Fonseca and Amanda Anisimova 10-8. This is the second victory together for Alcaraz and Pegula, who this Sunday also defeated Frances Tiafoe and Anisimova in an exhibition held in New Jersey.
