Overall World Cup winner Franziska Preuß and Selina Grotian are out of the second Biathlon World Cup of the Olympic winter for health reasons. World champion Preuß (31) is no longer able to compete again after her corona infection, as is Grotian (21), who is also ailing. You cannot compete in Hochfilzen from Friday onwards.

“Unfortunately, it wasn’t enough for Franzi and Selina to get fit in time, which we had hoped. Last night made it clear at the latest,” said sports director Felix Bitterling. “After a joint decision by the coaching team and the doctors, the focus is now on a start in Le Grand-Bornand.” The third World Cup will take place in France next week.

Marlene Fichtner, who should actually start in the second-class IBU Cup after her poor results at the season opener in Östersund, has now slipped back into the squad. The World Cup in Pillerseetal begins for the women on Friday (2.15 p.m./ARD and Eurosport) with the sprint.
