Lull in ski jumping: Why the ÖSV only uses 2 of 6 starting places

Since the introduction of the World Cup (2011/’12), the ÖSV has been involved Daniela Iraschko-Proud (2014/’15), Sara Marita Kramer (2021/’22) and Eva Pinkelnig (2022/’23) three times already Overall World Cup winner.

It went six times Nations Cup to Austria.

The Austrians are now only playing one team in the fight for the Nations Cup supporting role. Because the once proud and successful ÖSV women’s ski jumping team has degenerated into a rump group.

Austria is taking part this weekend with just 2 ski jumpers (Lisa Eder, Julia Mühlbacher). World Cup in Klingenthal represent. Officially would the ÖSV due to the successes in the past 6 starting places to be entitled.

The resignations of Sara Marita Kramer and Jacqueline Seifriedsberger and the serious knee injury of Eva Pinkelnig have taken a toll on the ÖSV team.

With Lisa Eder and Julia Mühlbacher There are currently only two female ski jumpers qualified for the World Cup. To the first World Cup competitions Neo-head coach Thomas Diethart took even more athletes with us.

But so far only Eder and Mühlbacher had managed to get into the points.

At least this duo has performed well so far. Lisa Eder can already boast podium finishes and is in fifth place in the overall World Cup. Julia Mühlbacher establishes herself in the top 15.

Violation prohibited

The ÖSV also urgently depends on the two of them. Because at the Olympic Winter Games in Milan-Cortina there is also one Mixed competition on the program (2 women and 2 men each).

An injury to one of the two flagship jumpers would drastically reduce their chances of winning a medal.
